We’ve grown from one store in Millwater, north of Auckland in 2015 to now 24 stores all the way down to New Plymouth, and the pace of growth is both rewarding and exhilarating.  We’re really proud to have opened in new markets across the North Island and seeing these stores flourish demonstrates the incredible potential our company can provide an owner-operator.

Ownership options

There are many different pathways to ownership because we understand everyone’s journey will be unique.  We are committed to nurturing our barber talent and have successfully converted independent barbers or hair salon owners into owning a BarberShopCo store and seeing a dramatic change in returns on investment.  We also undertake an Intern Programme where we develop barbers into senior barbers, team leaders and senior team leaders with the view that they will own their own store. 

For those not currently in the business, investment options vary depending on whether you are investing in a new store or an existing one.  New stores and territories will have a lower investment range, however earnings for the first year will be lower than a store that is in growth or yield phase.  A store in the growth or yield phase will have an increased value due to goodwill and profitability in the store. 

Being a barber or in the industry is no barrier to ownership, we welcome enquiry from all walks of life.  We’re keen to talk to driven and motivated business leaders that have a passion for driving themselves and others to achieve job satisfaction and financial reward.

  • What qualities do I need to own a BarberShopCo store?

    We are looking for people to join our network who share our values, are passionate, have a desire to create results and can motivate and lead their team.  It is essential that BarberShopCo owners believe in and respect our brand.

  • Do I need to be a barber or have industry experience?

    No, not at all, although industry experience will help with your pace of learning.  You will have all the support you need to recruit your team and the home office team are with you all the way.  You will be bringing your financial acumen, people skills and a passion to succeed.

  • What is the time commitment required to own a BarberShopCo store?

    Our expectation is that you work in the business as an owner-operator, working hands on within the business for at least 4 full-time days a week.  Our busiest days are Thursday to Sunday, so we expect owners to be driving and leading their team for the majority of these crucial days.  Our owners are the face of their business, building relationships with their clients and their local community.

  • What will it cost to purchase a BarberShopCo store?

    Purchase costs will vary depending on the size of the store and location.  Typically a greenfields site can cost between $135-165k for a fully operational store to open. 

    To purchase an existing store can vary between $200-$500k and is dependent on a number of factors including the length of the lease, the franchise agreement term, past performance, plant and equipment value and associated good will.

  • What do I get in return for my investment?

    You enjoy the benefits of joining a market disruptor that has changed the way men access grooming services!  We’ve developed a world-class client experience process that produces guaranteed results, and we’re with you every step of the way so that you can focus on empowering your team to achieve great things.  All operational, HR and marketing functions are covered as part of being part of the BarberShopCo family.

  • What training will I receive?

    We provide a comprehensive training programme with the Home Office team that covers the day-to-day operations, our sales process, marketing, and recruitment.  We’ll guide you through the early weeks when the store is opening, and ongoing opportunities include monthly Owners Meetings at Home Office, training programmes through the AAB, our Annual Conference and invitations to attend local and international industry events. 

  • What options are there to help me finance a BarberShopCo store?

    There are many ownership options for the right person depending on the level of capital you can make.  Barbershop Company can help you into ownership through a partnership model, where Barbershop Company provides an equal share of capital in the business.

  • What ongoing fees are payable to Barbershop Company?

    Franchise fees are scaled based on earnings, gross sales up to $20.833.33 are charged at 9%, sales between $20,833.33 to $41,666.67 are charged 6% and sales over and above $41,666.67 at 3%.  A marketing levy is set at 3% of gross sales, and the AAB is funded through a monthly levy of 1.87% of gross sales.  There is no joining fee payable to join our brand.
